Dandelion Blossom Oil

Herbal Rituals. Judith Berger
page 115

  • Cold-pressed olive oil
  • grapeseed oil
  • dandelion blossoms
  • a jar to hole whatever you've gathered

Gather the blossoms at noon, when the flowers carry the height of the sun's power and are sure to be dry. Make sure you fill the jar completely with blossoms. In a separate measuring cup, mix grapeseed and olive oil together, enough to fill your jar. Pour over the flowers. Use your chopstick to press out all the air bubbles. Cap and label. Keep in a dry, dark area, not too warm, as the dandelion blossoms are especially susceptible to spoiling. As the gases from the blossoms release, the oil tends to leak heavily. Open the jar every few days for the first two weeks, press out the air bubbles, refill the oil to the top, and cap tightly.

After six weeks, decant your oil, following directions for other infused oils. To make a salve, use a teaspoon or so of beeswax for every ounce of oil you melt.
