I picked up one at the Army Navy surplus as well as a alice pack and lots of things I otherwise would not be able to get otherwise when I go back packing and on survival treks. Last month I picked up the neatest litle Bow saw and I have a set that is made like a swiss army knife except that it is a pair of pruners, diggers, saw, knife. I also get Honey(my dog)neat scarves there, she likes them. I also use them too, I take a wet wash cloth in summer and roll it....Any one have any more tips?

to this list I would add a small wet stone, sturdy, gloves (would not want to mess the manicure up?....just joking), an extra pair of clean socks, compass and signaling mirror and field lenses for looking at things with a magnifcation, oh a notebook perhaps, and some twine/rope, extra shoe laces...and I carry brown paper bags and baggies as well (for wildcrafted items or samples)....in a expandable butt pack from REI. I know the clean socks sounds silly....but if one is gone for any length of time and the weather is hot or wet it is really important to take care of your feet....I speak from hard earned experience because it hurts like H*^(& to have your toenails removed d/t field acquired fungal infections and problems from wet feet (the only thing I can compare toe nail removal to is child Labour)......and oh yeah....LOTS of Water...I do not carry holsters with weapons, but do have side packs with canteens...I carry my knife within reach but not on my side...saw a man accidentally sit on his "Rambo sharpened" Kabar once and it did a nice number on his Glutteal regions...
as always,

I love to camp and forage so have my van all set up with newspaper for wrapping the plants and a water tank that was meant for an RV that I got from a salvage company and some buckets to put things in, a couple of folding shovels for when I have a friend or my 11 year old with me. Dizzy and I have a blast in the fall, we go buy a pack of the little paper lunch bags and head for the dirt roads of Indiana and Michigan. We also save up our large paper grocery bags for the larger things. Also hang on to those big plastic bags from the department stores, they are great for your cat tails. We usually haul a few cardboard boxes for the things that have
needles like pear cactus and thistle.
