We met with some friends Saturday night to have dinner and conversation. 4 couples total and a handful of kids in the other room coloring the walls. I had been asked to bring a salad and I did. Dandelion greens, young yarrow leaves, sheep sorrel, fiddlehead fern tips, violet flowers and the like...(did I mention this Before?).
Anyway, being one that doesn't know when enough is enough I also took dandelion flower cookies, dandelion flower fritters and dandelion crown tempura as well as 3 jars of dandelion pesto (1 for each couple). Ann went nuts on the pesto, said it was the best she ever had and when I offered to make more she said it cost too much to make. I snorted through my nose and said no...I use raw sunflower seeds and dandelion greens so it is in the end pretty cheap.
She again granted me rights to come and harvest her place any time I want even if she is gone off to work and the cool part...she gave me a plot of land for my tomatoes and heirloom beans. Wicked!
The dandelion cookies were just a simple sugar cookie recipe with about a cup and a half of dandelion petals mixed in but they were a big hit. I have a mind to try the same thing with freshly minced mint leaves and see how that comes out. I know calendula flowers work great like this because I have done that before.
We had rain yesterday...all day a smooth, steady rain soaked our already dry and hard ground. It was wonderful to see because I just don't care how much you water with a hose...it is never as good as what nature can give you. This morning the green outside is deeper, richer and fuller of life. Amazing sight to wake up to.
Hope you all have a great day. Many welcomes to the newest people finding a seat around the edges of our growing family.
