After saying good-bye to my baby brother this afternoon I set out for a friend's house on the hill. No telling how many acres she owns but it was more than enough to keep me off the streets and out of trouble for the day.
The view from the hill is amazing showing Valleyfield and Montreal on the horizon though both are about 45 minutes away.
I strolled along the brooks in the deep maple woods and found fiddlehead ferns, dark purple violets, wild mints, trout lilies, jack-in-the-pulpet and several startled frogs. My collection bags filled up quickly with the harvest, soon bursting with nettles, dandelion, violet flowers, scouring rush and fiddlehead ferns. --I also saw partridge berry (something Joanie identified for me in Maine)-- Which reminds me Joanie...I found more of that fuzzy fern here like I showed you in Maine. No chance to dig through my books yet...
Tomorrow will be busy trying to catch up on e-mail, making pesto from the dandelion greens and jelly from the violets.
Cool thing about having my brother here for the weekend is he brought along his digital camera and I took some 100 photos of various plants. Would of loved to of also had it today as I walked these new woods but I can't complain since I will have tons of new images as soon as he takes the time to e-mail them to me or up-load them to the web for me to get.
Will try and catch up tomorrow. Until then I wish you all the very best.
Good Night
