Spring is Springing!

Even though there are still great mounds of snow everywhere and 90% of my yard is still encased in 2-5 feet of snow depending on drift potential I can honestly say spring is here. One lone coltsfoot bloomed and for me, that is the real sign that spring is here.  "My" robin ha also returned and I fed her earth worms as I raked dead grass and plant material off the south flower bed.  Funny the relationship this bird and me have formed in three years but I swear she knows I protected her baby as best I could that first summer.  Yeah, that particular baby was lost but she seemed to know the situation and never blamed me just because I was the last person to be in contact with it.

The neighbor across the street whose house faces south has crocus blooming and I have signs of life from my echinacia, sage and possibly a Jerusalem artichoke. (not sure yet since I cannot remember for sure where that one J.A. was located in this bed.)  If so then the plant is a survivor from a tuber Steve sent me from Norway.  And plans are to move it as soon as possible.

I noticed in front of the church yesterday they had gill-over-the-ground exposed, tulips popping up and a mullein plant edging its way out from under the snow. No telling what is there but I can assure you I will have a mental inventory by the end of summer! Ha!

Well, yes I am tickled to death and between family and fellowship yesterday I took time to walk ....allot.  Just geared up and rearing to go this season and enjoying temps that where high enough to allow a light jacket rather than a padded penguin suit.  The canal and major waterways are open again with a few ice flows here and there but the majority has melted away.

Last week upon returning home from church we stopped at the canal and watched for close to an hour as a deer made its way across the ice.  My heart was in my throat the entire times because of the break up going on but it did eventually make it across. Anyway, while it is cool outside right now it promises to be yet another day of melt and I am tickled to death.  If the temps stay up or we get a warm rain we could be done with this winter stuff in a week.

Wishing everyone a wonderful spring
